Pre-Commercial Radio
From July 2002 to February 2005, Gav was a member of the Sheffield Children's Hospital radio station Chrystal Radio. Starting with a one hour show per week, Gav progressed to two, 2 hour shows per week, one of which was syndicated with various other small online stations. He also became station voiceover, and his company G Media took over management of the website.
Commercial Radio Career
Gav's first commercial radio appearance was at Chesterfield's Peak FM at the age of 18. He only presented 2 shifts, and managed to take the station off air during one, while nobody else was in the building.
From April 2005 to February 2006, Gav was part of the on-air lineup at Hallam FM in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. He presented the Friday late show, along with covering various other shifts including overnights, early breakfast, weekday evenings, and weekend afternoons. Similarly to his experience at Chrystal, Gav's company G Media became involved with several online operations for Hallam including Help A Hallam Child and Hallamster. Gav was also a part-time editor of Hallam FM's own website.
Gav left Hallam and travelled south to work at Passion 107.9] (Now Oxford's FM 107.9) in Oxford. There he presented Drive, and various cover shifts.
From December 2006 (although officially joining on February 3rd 2007), he was a presenter for Galaxy, mainly at Galaxy North East, broadcasting across North East England. His show was weekend breakfast, Saturday and Sunday 9am - 12pm. He also covered various shows on Galaxy Birmingham, including Evenings and Drive.
Gav left Galaxy in September 2007 to study at Sheffield Hallam University, however it wasn't long before he was recruited once again by his home station Hallam FM, this time to host flagship Saturday evening dance show Floorfillers!
Personal Life
While radio is obviously a big part of Gav's life, he also manages his own website design company G Media, and enjoys writing stand-up comedy. He is currently establishing an Improv comedy group at the Hallam student union. His favourite TV shows include Lost, Heroes, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, The Apprentice and 30 Rock. Gav names Conan O'Brien, Elvis Duran of Z100, and Jim Carrey amongst his heroes. When not on air, or contractually obliged to say he loves Hallam FM, Gav enjoys listening to New York radio station Z100. |
